This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

art anyway

what is art?
does it matter?
maybe words
just cause a clatter
wake to beauty everyday
art just happens anyway

a middle way

a world full of distraction
so much out there to see
as I wade through these rivers so wide
I risk a losing of me

what if instead I peer inside
to the smaller, quieter things
explore the landscapes of my own mind
what inner adventures might bring?

the way feels more in the middle
a place where focus will turn
as the shore meets the sea and the roots and the tree
we need both inner and outer to learn

morning to night

morning
reliable, sweet
promising, beckoning, unfurling
quietly bending to the inevitable
covering, eclipsing, blanketing
heavy, dark
night

Playing here with a poetry form called diamante. I broke the rules a bit but oh well….

Too Early

I woke up too early
My mind would not shut up
I woke up too early
I made myself 4 cups!
I woke up too early
This day will be so long
I woke up too early
I hope I can stay strong
I woke up too early
No time to take a nap
I woke up too early
Sleep tonight will be a snap!

A silly one for a Friday. Hope you all got plenty of sleep last night 😊 and have a wonderful weekend. Thank you, as always and forever, for being here. ❤️

Rose and Her Nose

There is a girl named Rose
With a perfectly delicate nose
Surprisingly rather small
Since this nose can smell it all

Were you eating a banana?
She would know way down in Atlanta
Is there a skunk nearby?
She could tell you and not even try

This is a schnoz with some talent
It may look rather royal and gallant
But make no mistake, this nose is no fake
It can smell every manner of food, even cake!

So when you need a decoder
Of any smell, scent or odor
Just call on dear Rose and her talented nose
With one whiff the game will be over!

this is our ground

we are right
we have no doubt
what you tell us
has no clout
given our
for sure state
there is no need
for a debate
we won't listen
don’t make a fuss
our minds are locked
we won’t discuss
we might pretend
to hear you out
but even if
you scream and shout
you words will be
just vacant sounds
we will not change
this is our ground

as wisps of promise and possibility
before they become
broken
twisted and bent
under the weight

your people

they are your people
how do you know?
a time will come
when life lays you low

and would you call them?
and would they care?
and would they listen?
and would you bare?

go find your people
no matter the risk
make sure you tell them
that they made the list

we need each other
of this I am sure
together might be
a right and true cure

yes, spring

the whole world turns green
with pops of bright white
the air smells like bubble gum
the breeze blows just right
yes, this is normal
the rhythm of spring
nothing contains
the joy that it brings
this year feels different
all shines, more alive
yes, much has changed
new hope, we can thrive
