This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.
lead to collapse
the cold shoulder
the subtle brush-off
an overt dismissal
a turn and a cough
all of these signals
used lightly perhaps
create confusion
lead to collapse
I so much prefer
the warmth of a hug
the flash of a smile
no trace of the smug
a gift we can give
to one and to all
drop our defenses
trust we won’t fall
be a dear friend
we see that way
an old dry leaf
a cold dark day
the scent of grief
night descends
turn on your light
be a dear friend
kind, warm and bright
these faces stay
dear hearts around
all gathered close
the friends you keep
those loved the most
time will pass
these faces stay
weave through your life
the thread of days
kindred hearts
to laughs and grins
we raise a glass
worth more than gold
silver or cash
to look around
the room and see
kindred hearts
the place to be
