This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.
trucks croak
outside my window
trucks croak
the saws buzz
hammers bark
workers caw
the machinery cackles
the frogs, bees, fox, crows and geese
are silent
instead of birds
outside my window
large and loud
working crews
trucks churn and crowd
instead of birds
chirp chirp chirp
hammers pound
metal grinds and burps
warm days in Spring
the breeze blows warm
the air smells sweet
warm days in Spring
a season’s treat
the way of nature
there he was, a coyote
strutting in the grass
seeming not to have a care in the world
the neighbor dog barking through glass
strange to see this coyote
in the middle of the day
he must be feeling right at home
keeping bunny and squirrel friends away
he must be king, the coyote
of this straggly neighborhood
no other creature to stop him
the way of nature, not so bad or so good
the rabbits!!
yesterday I blamed the squirrel
but another earns its own conferral
the rabbits!! — the beasts that bear a mention
who do deserve their own attention
they gnaw and chew and eat away
those flowers never will see the light of day
the squirrels
the squirrels are out of control
eating all wherever they go
the buds and the shoots and the tender green things
destruction and plunder — the gifts the squirrels bring
sneeze and sneeze
before my eyes
outside does wake
a flood of green
will overtake
the air soon filled
with scent and breeze
I do prepare
to sneeze and sneeze!
winter time today
white covers the ground
gray skies hang around
stuck in winter time today
wish the cold would go away
want to go outside and play
