This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.
bird song rings
rain beats down
thunder crashes
soil swells
lightning flashes
wind blows hard
clouds roll on
bird song rings
spring blooms, life dawns
another rain rhyme
I’m sure you are bored of hearing
of rain and clouds never clearing
but I woke again to wet and rain
a weather poem again, again!
I’m sure this pattern soon will break
a new view then these words can take
but until that glorious time
another rain rhyme I must find!
cold and wet
drizzle sprinkles mist and rain
all of these are quite a pain
cold and wet and gray and drab
none of these will make me glad
about the rain
watching the grey sky
I wonder about the rain
crying tears of joy
or weeping streams of sadness
both whetting the will to grow
blankets and thick doors
rainy and cold Sunday
the dreariest indeed
stay under the covers
watch a movie or read
pause to be grateful
you weren’t born before
walls and roofs and windows
blankets and thick doors
More Towels!
These two things
They do not mix
Dogs and rain
Do you want pics?
When dogs go out
In the rain
The mud they spread
Is such a pain
I just can’t win
Although I try
The mess is such
I want to cry!
From smelly fur
To dirty paws
To leaves and sticks
There should be laws!
Every time
The beast goes out
Here comes the mud
More towels! I shout
it did not flood
it did not flood
we are all dry
the winds came in
blew rains goodbye
some trees around
they lost some limbs
no twig or leaf
was forced to swim
Waiting now
Rain pours down
Makes it wet
Ponds are big
Full I bet
Still so dark
Can’t yet see
Water up
To my knees?
Floods do come
Every year
Question now
Is it near?
Backyard filled?
Pump it out?
Rain just stop!
Hear me shout
Slowly now
Light will shine
We will see
What we find!
