This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

I make no claim that much of this is “good” poetry. But I do make the claim that I loved doing it and I learned something and some of it makes me cry.

flat days

you wake to day
not warm, not bright
you wonder
will things be all right

on the days
that feel like that
the days when moods
stay fairly flat

remember this
it will not last
the future sprawls out
wide and vast

put on a smile
note the lift
even flat days
are a gift

a day for some silly

A day for some silly
Let off some steam
Eat jam with jelly
Dance in a stream

When you get stuck
In a hole or a hard place
When time takes a toll
Or frowns grace your face

If you can manage
A laugh or a smile
You may just find
The joy lasts a while

The trick is to find
A little bright spark
Doesn’t have to be big
To make a wide mark

I know it’s not easy
To laugh sing and play
But you just might find
Life is better that way

feeling so gray
comforting to know
this time won’t stay
give it four short days

yes, spring

the whole world turns green
with pops of bright white
the air smells like bubble gum
the breeze blows just right
yes, this is normal
the rhythm of spring
nothing contains
the joy that it brings
this year feels different
all shines, more alive
yes, much has changed
new hope, we can thrive

Got my second shot
Not feeling so hot
Plan to sleep today
Hope it goes away
What to do if not?

Tough Times to Find Some Rhymes

Why can’t I do this? What have I done?
I’m thinking so hard and the words — they won’t come!
I push them and pull them and tear them apart.
Sit here in anguish, examine my heart.
How can it be that all is so vacant?
Is my own soul now meek and complacent?
Strike an idea, stoke a hot flame,
burn away nonsense, some essence remains...
Not on this morning, not in this place,
instead just some words to fill up some space.

Some Days Weather

Some days
The sun is shining, you feel bright
The rain pours down, a grayness sits in your heart
The wind whips, you feel mighty and wild

Some days
Storms rage, you long for calm
The morning breaks bright and fresh, you find yourself in the depths of grief
A fog descends, you are brimming with joy

Mother Nature creates her days
Who creates yours?

Fridays are for Funny

Fridays are for funny
All things bright and sunny
Make bad rhymes
Waste some time
I like my eggs quite runny!

The week’s all done
Let’s play
Make puns
Mix up words
Sing like birds
Hop around like bunnies!

Spin once more
Never a chore
Make a grin
Above your chin
I’ll say again….
This is what Fridays are for!!

late!

ugh
woke up late
the day starts
not so great
need to rush
things to do
oh my gosh
the time just flew
got that final
hour of sleep
decided to
ignore the beep
now the panic
must keep moving
late again
there’s things need doing!

Today was a day
I wanted to give up
Today was a day
When going got quite rough

Today was a day
I did it anyway
Today was a day
When grit came out to play

I had to really try
Today was a day

Sick Day

My head feels stuffed with cotton
My body feels oh so rotten
Crawl back in bed
Under the spread
Let sound sleep shred the sickness I’ve gotten

…don’t worry, I’m not sick 😊 …. I just have a little headache so started with the head filled with cotton idea and went from there 😉

Go Grab Your Hat!

Time for a Friday!
Go grab your hat!
Let’s go have a good ol’ time!
End the week with splat!

Throw out the rule book!
Dance like you were five!
Sing and play the day away!
It’s great to be alive!

❤️ A little note to you — extraordinarily special and dear reader — thank you for being here. These words come alive through your reading. ❤️

the well is dry
I’m all used up
the words won’t come
an empty cup
I never thought
this day would come
my ideas — gone
each word, hard won
that isn’t true
i’m writing fast
turn up the heat
ignite the blast
remove the rocks
let the words flow
grab them quick
now i have to go
