This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

let joy abound!

these past few days
the words were done
I sat to write
but could find none
three days off
that is alot
the most in years
my streak was hot
now gone cold
I start anew
find clear paths
put on fresh shoes
where I walk
I have no clue
hold out hope
for a word zoo
remember that
this should be fun
make me laugh
not weigh a ton
I want, I hope
to improve
can’t do that
without this groove
so here I am
more silly words
join the crazy
chirping birds
yell real loud
dance around
you’ve got this day
let joy abound!

the rhyme hog

a slog, a bog
croaking like a frog
a smog, like fog
after a glass of grog
take
a jog
trip over that there log
hear
a dog
more stuff to catalog
no more, all done
we’ve reached the epilogue

eek!

Monday’s here, another week
there’s a bird, worm in beak
rhyming’s tired, need to tweak
this one’s done, tongue in cheek

sound around town

Does your dog
bark in the dark?

Does your cat
sneeze in the breeze?

Does your goat
bleat in the heat?

Wait….
What’s that you say?
You don’t own a goat?

Well ...
do you…
croon at noon or wait ’til late?
screech at the beach or roar at the store?
fret at the wet or cry at the dry?

Do you spread your sound
around
the whole town?

Thank you to my friend Darcy Lee for using the phrase “barking in the dark” - what a great and inspiring rhyme! ❤️

is cheese stretchy?

sometimes the words
they won’t move around
just sit there like rocks
will make no nice sound
I push them and pull them
like taffy or cheese
but words can be stubborn
I even say please
wait, cheese isn’t stretchy!!
how did that word jump in?
it’s getting quite crazy
I’m gonna let the words win

critters run through my head

anxiety worry fear dread
oh when these critters run through my head
causing real havoc, wearing me down
oh I wish I could quiet them down!
they keep screaming and shouting and taunting me so
get out of town!!
just get up and go!!
my yelling won’t stop them, they scramble and play
oh I want them to Go! Go Away!

bippity bobbity boo

bippity bobbity boo
the cow took off and flew
the goat wore a bright yellow shoe
the chicken wanted in too
so she painted her chicks all bright blue
bippity bobbity boo
is that a sheep or a ewe?
this farm is a real crazy zoo!

Happy Monday Friends. Who doesn’t need a bunch of silly rhymes sometimes? 😀
Thank you thank you thank you for reading! ❤️

In Praise of The Potato

Oh, the mighty mighty spud,
how I love you so!
Let me call you
your full name
my dear Po-ta-to.

So very very yummy
in all your varied forms —
baked or mashed
or hashed right up —
you make my belly warm!

I know you have detractors,
they spur you for your carbs.
Let’s ignore those silly folk,
their cruel warnings,
senseless barbs!

For you are The Potato!
A king! A queen! A prince!
Always there for easy eating,
a quick boil
after a rinse.

Thank you thank you Dear Potato,
for all your fleshy starch!
Should they try to ban you
to your defense
I will march!!

Susan’s Zoo

Susan was screaming
”What should we do?!
All of the animals
escaped from the zoo!”

There goes a zebra
behind a brown bear!
The lions are lounging
in Adam’s deck chair!

The elephants seem partial
to the big yellow arch!
Giraffes take four lanes
as they make their march!

Baboons smash the glass
at Johnson’s Ice Cream!
The tigers are lounging
in the Miller’s airstream!

The town now resembles
a zoo inside out!
Susan just stands there
and she shouts and she shouts!!
