This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

I make no claim that much of this is “good” poetry. But I do make the claim that I loved doing it and I learned something and some of it makes me cry.

even squirrels and rabbits
why can you not forget
one desperate and sad habit
believing you are alone

we choose each day

the colors right
before our eyes
the darkest earth
a bright blue sky
these are gifts
we choose each day
the question if
we see that way

He did not stay too long

all things an ocean

sometimes we feel
we want to stop
take a break
sit down and plop
but once we do
we realize quick
inside and out
no thing just quits
the waves still break
our hearts still beat
the world still turns
the sun still heats
we are a part
of constant motion
inside and out
all things an ocean

Horde of Hamsters

Harold heard
A gaggle of geese
Honking and hinking
And heading due east

Susie suspected
An army of ants
Had crawled up her sandals
And into her pants!

Shane stared
At a scurry of squirrels
Got so engrossed
He missed his best girl!

Can you imagine
A horde of hamsters
A drove of hogs
Or a leap of leopards!?

Animals come
In all shapes and sizes
Big groups are named
All kinds of surprises

Can you research
Impress your best friend?
In this big world
The wonders don’t end!

old leaves

Does a tree lament
losing her old leaves
or does she celebrate the space
for something new?

what a tree knows

Does a tree get confused
mixed up or bemused?
Or does she just know
the direction to grow?

It sure seems to me,
as I look at that tree,
she thinks strive for the light
and all will be right.

a note to mother nature

a note to mother nature
bend your ear this way
wanted to say thank you
for this gorgeous day

colors deep and tawny
air both crisp and warm
bare branches reaching to the sky
buds waiting to be born

what you do is magic
wonder
mystery
thank you mother nature
I’m deeply grateful

sharks and fleas

cats and dogs
sheep and hogs
cows and bees
sharks and fleas
animals live in different places
might do work, have different faces

I wonder what our world would be
with no creatures but you and me?
That would be no good at all!
We each belong here, big and small.

she asked

What is art? she asked...
.....
and the soaring hawk
and the mighty oak
and the slow running river
and the fresh blade of grass
and the folded shaft of goldenrod
and the rocky mountain
and the roaring waterfall
all replied in a silent language
....
We are.

Still

Today I can be still
A day of rest
But...
The sun still shines
The wind still blows
The tree still stands
The grass still grows
The flower still blooms
The river still flows
The bird still chirps
The day still goes
Today I can be still

Weather Report

Today it is a gray day
Won’t be very bright
Sometimes a day’s lighting
Fits your mood just right
You feel very happy
The day is filled with sun
Wild wind and warm temps
You feel like having fun
Rain falling heavy
Your heart is filled with grief
But when there is a mismatch
Nature feels the thief
You are feeling joyful
But the sky is filled with storms
You want to have a good cry
But it’s sunny breezy warm
The sunlight feels annoying
So you crawl into your bed
You wish it was a gray day
Like this one now, instead
