This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

enjoy right now

What’s that I see?
A slice of sun!!
Instead of clouds —
the light has won!

It won’t last long,
the map says rain.
Enjoy right now —
alive again!

sparkle and laugh

clouds hang heavy
blocking the sun
day after day
brightness, hard won

keep holding hope
this darkness will pass
maybe tomorrow
we’ll sparkle and laugh

the world around

hard to know
to find true words
the world around
seems so absurd

one thing I think…
feels true to me…
I don’t know
what others see…

we have to hold
each other tight
in light of day
in dark of night

the world around
can seem wrong
we do our best
when we belong

for every child

tough to write
the world gone mad
hard to keep
from feeling bad
then I think
of all the kids
feel the tears
on my eyelids
my deep wish
they can still smile
keep holding hope
for every child

the stars do shine

this time of year
for some so dear
but not for all
some hear a call
of echos past
of grief and loss
the bittersweet
sorrow and dross
my hope for those
in dark shadows
you find a light
in this deep night
by accident
or grand design
for all of us
the stars do shine
