This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

I make no claim that much of this is “good” poetry. But I do make the claim that I loved doing it and I learned something and some of it makes me cry.

calling

between buzzing and binging and beeping
live
small
moments
watching a dog sleep
witnessing a tree bend in the breeze
wiping chocolate from a child’s face
wake up to the wonder
wedged amid
chatter and clutter and clatter
calling you, nudging you, to notice

the world is a giant place

flat days

you wake to day
not warm, not bright
you wonder
will things be all right

on the days
that feel like that
the days when moods
stay fairly flat

remember this
it will not last
the future sprawls out
wide and vast

put on a smile
note the lift
even flat days
are a gift

encounter in a wood

Last night I dreamt of a forest.
Above a stream in a clearing
floated fairies or sprites or spirits.
They moved as wisps of color and grace.
In the dark edges of the wood, evil lurked.
we could all feel it

I wrote the angels a poem
to say hello and thank you,
to help keep the evil away.
I had to leave the forest,
will never know if my words mattered
but I know they heard them.
we could all feel it

dreamland conversation

I see your mind
Wandering
through fields of worry
Drowning
in streams of doubt
Drifting
on an ocean of dread

My mind is here too
Let’s build a kite and float away
on the stirring of our dreams
Together

a day for some silly

A day for some silly
Let off some steam
Eat jam with jelly
Dance in a stream

When you get stuck
In a hole or a hard place
When time takes a toll
Or frowns grace your face

If you can manage
A laugh or a smile
You may just find
The joy lasts a while

The trick is to find
A little bright spark
Doesn’t have to be big
To make a wide mark

I know it’s not easy
To laugh sing and play
But you just might find
Life is better that way

as I look out

As I look out
into the glory of a morning
my awareness dawns

more activity rushes through that small patch of earth in one minute than I could complete in 10,000 hours

the rush of
things to do
becomes strangely silent
as I look out
into the glory of a morning

Is fear like an anchor, holding you down
Is it like a dark room, cold and lonely
Like a veil that surrounds you
A nightmare that lingers
Black shadows
Stickiness

Today
I wish for you
The warm sun of day
Streaming in, clearing your vision
You find a key, unlock bright possibilities
Move into the world clean and full of courage

tried and true

tried and true
it’s what they do
but what if it
doesn’t feel like you?

you want to go
a different way
instead of work
you want to play

they say zig
but you yell zag
others stay quiet
you smile and brag

the world is big
there’s lots to do
you can be tried
you can be true
can you do that
and still be you?

memory like a flash

I wrote my poem yesterday
but then forgot to post.
If I had not remembered
my streak would have been toast!

Not sure how I remembered,
it came in like a flash.
I’m thankful for my memory,
my dream has not been dashed!
