This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

In Praise of Toast

I love myself a cracker
With a piece of cheese
Just not in early morning
Toast for me then if you please

To me it’s like a cracker
A steady support slab
For something nice and tasty
Just butter? Mostly drab

How ‘bout peanut butter
Or maybe with some jam
You could layer a piece of swiss
Put it with some ham

Or maybe go for creamy
Avocado toast
Cream cheese? Not just for bagels
That’s one I love the most

I once spread ricotta
You have to add some salt
Keep that one between us
Put it in the vault

It has to do with texture
The crunchy paired with cream
The thing is toasting matters
Burned will make me scream

Of course I have to mention
The classic diner pair
See a plate with eggs show up
Toast likely right there

Yes I do love a piece
Of crunchy toasted bread
But more and more the carb load
Fills me with some dread

Maybe just one slice
With a favorite topping
Just cut back a little bit
Instead of fully stopping

Peter the Bee in Summer!

Peter the Bee
Is something to see
He flies all around
But he doesn’t sting me!

He seems to like flowers
Of orange and of pink
He doesn’t like yellow
Why do you think?

This is his time
The heat he likes best
He buzzes all day
Seems to not need much rest!

I still wonder a lot
About where he does go
When the sun fades away
And the moon makes its glow

Does dear old Peter
Have a mom and a dad?
No matter his family
I hope they’re all glad!

To write about Peter
Brings me great joy
A real funny question -
Is he even a boy??

a day for some silly

A day for some silly
Let off some steam
Eat jam with jelly
Dance in a stream

When you get stuck
In a hole or a hard place
When time takes a toll
Or frowns grace your face

If you can manage
A laugh or a smile
You may just find
The joy lasts a while

The trick is to find
A little bright spark
Doesn’t have to be big
To make a wide mark

I know it’s not easy
To laugh sing and play
But you just might find
Life is better that way

Too Early

I woke up too early
My mind would not shut up
I woke up too early
I made myself 4 cups!
I woke up too early
This day will be so long
I woke up too early
I hope I can stay strong
I woke up too early
No time to take a nap
I woke up too early
Sleep tonight will be a snap!

A silly one for a Friday. Hope you all got plenty of sleep last night 😊 and have a wonderful weekend. Thank you, as always and forever, for being here. ❤️

Rose and Her Nose

There is a girl named Rose
With a perfectly delicate nose
Surprisingly rather small
Since this nose can smell it all

Were you eating a banana?
She would know way down in Atlanta
Is there a skunk nearby?
She could tell you and not even try

This is a schnoz with some talent
It may look rather royal and gallant
But make no mistake, this nose is no fake
It can smell every manner of food, even cake!

So when you need a decoder
Of any smell, scent or odor
Just call on dear Rose and her talented nose
With one whiff the game will be over!

Billionaire Bobbo

Billionaire Bobbo went out for a stroll
Wore his best sneakers cuz that’s how he rolls
He met a banana that looked like a snake
Jumped in a tree and started to shake
Billionaire Bobbo— a real scaredy cat
All of his money won’t ever change that

Something

Something silly
Something sweet
Something short
Something neat

I have to write my poem today
But once again have little to say
I’ve learned the way out of this trap
Is to let the words come out like crap

Sometimes I find something
Sometimes I don’t
Looks like today....today...
I won’t

( ...or did I? 😉 )

The Penguin?

Paul The Penguin
Keeps himself neat
The shiniest shoes
On his daintiest feet

He is a dandy
A right real fop
I’m fairly sure
the cane is a prop

He waddles around
This way and that
Of course he wears
A giant top hat

He carries an eyeglass
On a gold chain
A black umbrella
When it might rain

Paul is our neighbor
Should we feel shame?
We call him The Penguin
Our little nickname

the dishes pile up

i have become convinced
there is a creature of some sort
living in my kitchen
making dishes for me, his sport

the dishes pile up
he seems to have this trick
he makes them multiply
they go from two to ten so quick

i wake up to a mountain
of dish and bowl and spoon
all over the counters
plates and forks are strewn

this has to be some magic
i did not use that pan
how did it get there
this is his evil plan

he really is against me
he keeps mounting his attacks
the only thing i can do
is try to hold him back

the dirties keep on coming
the worst ones hard to rinse
a baster filled with oil
a pot with burned-on bits

he thinks I can’t do it
he thinks he will win
but I will keep on fighting
oh geez, the rolling pin!

my hands are wet and shriveled
my back is mighty sore
but i will win this battle
i will complete my chore

this creature in my kitchen
he may be a small myth
the mess might be coming from
the person i live with

a little fun rhyming for a friday
thank you so much for being here and reading….
now i have to go do some dishes
😉 🤣

for the fun of it

this writing has been harder
than it used to be
I must have things in my head
that are blocking me

I seem to want to be
witty, clever, wise
say it all with some aplomb
make people surprised

but these are only smallish words
with no real big ideas
sometimes it is just good fun
to find a rhyme - tortillas!

today I will sound applause
at the value of pure play
something for the fun of it
nothing deep to say

A Super Cheesy Poem

Swiss is bliss
Gouda is gooda
Feta is betta
Colby Jack, bring it on back

If I could live in a world made of cheese
That would be best, can you make it? Please?

I understand it might not be good for my health
Or maybe not even good for my wealth
But I would be happy to eat only cheese
Is there a place like this? Give me the keys!

Ricotta or munster or even some goat
Let’s go get some! I’ll get my coat!

Cheedar on burgers
Jack on the nachos
Hey, whatever kind ends up on tacos!

Bottom line
Parmo is fine
Bring in all the cheese, so divine!
Here is some blue for you...
And some brie for me!
I want cheese cheese cheese, all the time!

*Dedicated to a friend, you know who you are!

Wizzelly won the race

Wizzelly won the race
he got the great big prize
his mom took him to get a treat
he got ice cream, oversized!

he got home and changed his clothes
and sat on the side of his bed
his mind starting bringing up some wonky thoughts
so he went downstairs instead

but he found himself real restless
couldn’t quite settle down
he was really quite a little grouch
and his mom said “what’s that frown?”

and Wizzelly blurted out
and the tears started to run
"Mom, mom I cheated!
I should not have won!!"

she sat down beside him
and asked what he had done
she told him he would have to tell
and it would not be too much fun

but here’s the thing she did
that might, maybe, surprise
instead of yelling at the him
she looked into his eyes

she said "I still love you Wizzelly.
I don’t like that you chose to cheat.
But you can work to fix that now,
but my love is still complete."

Wizzelly, he was sobbing
and he hugged his mom so tight
because he knew he had done wrong
but that he would be all right

it turns out we aren’t perfect
we all do make mistakes
it helps us learn our lessons
when our hugs and love aren’t at stake

dear spider

Dear Spider,

I’ve been wanting to write.
I feel like, well… I feel I’ve been not so welcoming to you. I do understand that you have an important job to do but…

Here is where it gets tricky, I hate to say this but… I find you ugly and really quite creepy.
I look up and there you are on the wall. It is disconcerting.

And, please, don’t get me started with your messes. Clogging up the corners of things with your webs. Do you really need to take over so much in your quest for capture?

I understand you really don’t want to bother me. We could co-exist I suppose and you could just go about your low level policing efforts, keeping the space clear from other invaders.

The problem is I see you as an invader as well.

I can see in writing this we are at an impasse. I don’t expect you can comply but I am going to make my request.

Please keep your webs out of the corners. Keep yourself out of my view so I don’t see you creeping around. I’m happy to provide you a home but, please remember that out of sight equals out of mind and that is how I think our relationship will work best. Please also spread this word to your friends… because yes, I know they are gathering here. I don’t even want to think about that!

Thank you for your consideration,

the human who lives here
