This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.

I make no claim that much of this is “good” poetry. But I do make the claim that I loved doing it and I learned something and some of it makes me cry.

good covers all

kind, warm and bright
here comes the sun
the end of night
the darkness done
light prevails
good covers all
keep hope alive
let evil fall

before our eyes

we choose each day
the question if
we see that way

Bob the Squirrel

A squirrel lives by my house
I have named him Bob
He mostly does squirrel things
But in one way he is quite odd

He climbs and jumps on trees
He eats nuts, fruits and seeds
But when I go outside each morn
He seems to follow me

The odd one thing ‘bout Bob
What he loves the most
Not nuts or fruits or seeds or trees
But my hot buttered toast!!

sound around town

Does your dog
bark in the dark?

Does your cat
sneeze in the breeze?

Does your goat
bleat in the heat?

Wait….
What’s that you say?
You don’t own a goat?

Well ...
do you…
croon at noon or wait ’til late?
screech at the beach or roar at the store?
fret at the wet or cry at the dry?

Do you spread your sound
around
the whole town?

Thank you to my friend Darcy Lee for using the phrase “barking in the dark” - what a great and inspiring rhyme! ❤️

is cheese stretchy?

sometimes the words
they won’t move around
just sit there like rocks
will make no nice sound
I push them and pull them
like taffy or cheese
but words can be stubborn
I even say please
wait, cheese isn’t stretchy!!
how did that word jump in?
it’s getting quite crazy
I’m gonna let the words win

critters run through my head

anxiety worry fear dread
oh when these critters run through my head
causing real havoc, wearing me down
oh I wish I could quiet them down!
they keep screaming and shouting and taunting me so
get out of town!!
just get up and go!!
my yelling won’t stop them, they scramble and play
oh I want them to Go! Go Away!
