This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.

Keep on a-going

I tried to make something great
Instead I made something I hate

I tried to bake lovely nice bread
Tasted more like rough tire treads

I tried to take a swim in a lake
There was me and there was the snake!

I tried to rake up all the leaves
Instead I just started to sneeze!

I tried to wake up at seven
But was in bed until after eleven!!

Sometimes right after the trying
You are left feeling like crying
But you have to keep on a-going
Because doing is not about knowing

vacation

sit, put your feet up
relax and enjoy
no work to do now
no skill to deploy

you can just rest here
not worry one bit
sink into some leisure
a simple remit

a time to move slower
a gift we can give
to self in this moment
a changed way to live

Peter the Bee in Summer!

Peter the Bee
Is something to see
He flies all around
But he doesn’t sting me!

He seems to like flowers
Of orange and of pink
He doesn’t like yellow
Why do you think?

This is his time
The heat he likes best
He buzzes all day
Seems to not need much rest!

I still wonder a lot
About where he does go
When the sun fades away
And the moon makes its glow

Does dear old Peter
Have a mom and a dad?
No matter his family
I hope they’re all glad!

To write about Peter
Brings me great joy
A real funny question -
Is he even a boy??

flat days

you wake to day
not warm, not bright
you wonder
will things be all right

on the days
that feel like that
the days when moods
stay fairly flat

remember this
it will not last
the future sprawls out
wide and vast

put on a smile
note the lift
even flat days
are a gift

a day for some silly

A day for some silly
Let off some steam
Eat jam with jelly
Dance in a stream

When you get stuck
In a hole or a hard place
When time takes a toll
Or frowns grace your face

If you can manage
A laugh or a smile
You may just find
The joy lasts a while

The trick is to find
A little bright spark
Doesn’t have to be big
To make a wide mark

I know it’s not easy
To laugh sing and play
But you just might find
Life is better that way

tried and true

tried and true
it’s what they do
but what if it
doesn’t feel like you?

you want to go
a different way
instead of work
you want to play

they say zig
but you yell zag
others stay quiet
you smile and brag

the world is big
there’s lots to do
you can be tried
you can be true
can you do that
and still be you?

this is dedicated to my BirdBrain friends… thank you all for being you….❤️

Too Early

I woke up too early
My mind would not shut up
I woke up too early
I made myself 4 cups!
I woke up too early
This day will be so long
I woke up too early
I hope I can stay strong
I woke up too early
No time to take a nap
I woke up too early
Sleep tonight will be a snap!

A silly one for a Friday. Hope you all got plenty of sleep last night 😊 and have a wonderful weekend. Thank you, as always and forever, for being here. ❤️

this is our ground

we are right
we have no doubt
what you tell us
has no clout
given our
for sure state
there is no need
for a debate
we won't listen
don’t make a fuss
our minds are locked
we won’t discuss
we might pretend
to hear you out
but even if
you scream and shout
you words will be
just vacant sounds
we will not change
this is our ground

Tough Times to Find Some Rhymes

Why can’t I do this? What have I done?
I’m thinking so hard and the words — they won’t come!
I push them and pull them and tear them apart.
Sit here in anguish, examine my heart.
How can it be that all is so vacant?
Is my own soul now meek and complacent?
Strike an idea, stoke a hot flame,
burn away nonsense, some essence remains...
Not on this morning, not in this place,
instead just some words to fill up some space.

Fridays are for Funny

Fridays are for funny
All things bright and sunny
Make bad rhymes
Waste some time
I like my eggs quite runny!

The week’s all done
Let’s play
Make puns
Mix up words
Sing like birds
Hop around like bunnies!

Spin once more
Never a chore
Make a grin
Above your chin
I’ll say again….
This is what Fridays are for!!
