This was a project I did basically during the pandemic. I started writing a poem a day. Once ‘real life’ started again it got harder to write everyday, which is interesting.
I have started to edit some of these mostly the kids poetry. I think there might be enough here for a book. We shall see.
another rain rhyme
I’m sure you are bored of hearing
of rain and clouds never clearing
but I woke again to wet and rain
a weather poem again, again!
I’m sure this pattern soon will break
a new view then these words can take
but until that glorious time
another rain rhyme I must find!
enjoy right now
What’s that I see?
A slice of sun!!
Instead of clouds —
the light has won!
It won’t last long,
the map says rain.
Enjoy right now —
alive again!
sparkle and laugh
clouds hang heavy
blocking the sun
day after day
brightness, hard won
keep holding hope
this darkness will pass
maybe tomorrow
we’ll sparkle and laugh
all things wait
blazing sun, rises high
air hangs thin, wind blows dry
no thing crawls or skitters past
all things wait for shadows cast
cold and wet
drizzle sprinkles mist and rain
all of these are quite a pain
cold and wet and gray and drab
none of these will make me glad
doubt creeps in
doubt creeps in
holds your hand
makes you question
what you’d planned
pulls you down
into the dark
dims your light
dampens your spark
ideas once
seemed to glow
now concern
is all you know
time to dig
inside so deep
turn from doubt
and courage keep
the feeling of rushing
the feeling of rushing
the whiz-bang in my head
this note must be written!
this page must be read!
all things need doing!!
all due Right Now!!!
need to keep moving
but I’m not sure quite how…
take one short moment
see what piece is true
what really needs doing?
that is the thing that you do
or maybe you find
that time does not press
the rush in your head
was a thing we call stress….
promises: keep
those times you pause
feel resolve dip
were going strong
will takes a hit
these are the times
you must dig deep
be the one who
promises: keep
work week’s done
time to laugh
have some fun
be with friends
the work week’s done
tell a joke
spread good cheer
smile wide
the weekend’s here
soon we yell YAY!
today
more gray
let’s pray
it gives way
soon we yell YAY!
when the sun comes to play!!
A Pete the Frog Story
Do you remember Pete the Frog?
He lives out back, under that log?
I have a quick story to tell —
how Pete put me under his spell.
Oops, did I forget to mention?
Pete is a magical frog.
Now I have your full attention!
One day I was out in the back
thinking about having a snack.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted —
felt like crunch was what I hunted.
Pete saw me making up my mind.
He croaked out loud “Eat what you find!”
“In fact there is a worm right there.
If you pull soft it will not tear.”
And even though I was surprised,
I leaned right down and scrunched my eyes,
I pulled that worm out of the ground
and showed old Pete what I had found!
He quickly used his tongue to grab
the little worm that I had nabbed.
So, Pete the Frog, he got a snack!
I stood there like a poor sad sack!
Pete then released me from his grip.
I walked inside and had some chips!
about the rain
watching the grey sky
I wonder about the rain
crying tears of joy
or weeping streams of sadness
both whetting the will to grow
Pete the Frog
Would you like to meet
my new friend —
he’s called Pete!
Lives under a log
in my backyard —
he’s a frog!
His body is quite slimy
from far away —
just looks shiny!
He tells real funny jokes
the punchlines —
sound like croak!
He can smile when he tries
usually after —
catching flies!
Anyway, that is Pete
a better frog —
you will not meet!
the bird bus
here comes the bird bus
driving down the street
filled up with beaks
hear the sounds “tweet tweet tweet”
feathers flying everywhere
poop covers the floor
let the bus drive away
don’t want to see anymore
the sunlight of silence
a brain made soggy
by a downpour of information
a mind made sharp
by the sunlight of silence
which will you choose?
